Volunteers sought for ProVision Cricket Match

I am writing to you as a personal friend because I know that you can make a big difference to a good number of individuals lives here in Bangalore – by playing a game of cricket, meeting some new friends, and donating a sum that is less than the price of a decent Sunday brunch for the privilege!
We are organising an indoor cricket match – 1-2 hours on 23rd May – which will be 7 a side on the NE side of town close to ORR. What we ask of each participant is that they pay an entry fee of Rs2000 and that they encourage a mate to come along and play for the opposing side (and pay their own fee!). All costs of hiring the cricket hall, organisation, refreshments etc have been taken care of by another sponsor – so all entry fees go 100% to a charity called ProVision which needs to raise Rs60,000 in the next four weeks. With this cricket game, we hope to raise Rs30,000 to add to the Rs20,000 which ProVision raised last month through a sponsored run by, among others, Sean Dexter.
What are the funds for?
ProVision Asia (is an organisation which transforms lives by providing fitted wheelchairs and mobility aids for disabled people in Bangalore. It’s a humbling and fantastic sight to see individuals carried in by family, or crawling in on the floor to a wheelchair camp to be examined by a physio, and have a free wheelchair donated from the US fitted to their specific needs, and to see those individuals roll out with their lives transformed. That’s what ProVision Asia does for people here in Bangalore.
Every year a new container of wheelchairs arrives, donated from all parts of the US. When the wheelchairs arrive, they need to clear customs, they are refurbished by a team of volunteers at the Bangalore Prison, and they are then transported to a “wheelchair camp”. The WheelChair Camp is publicised widely and is open to any who are in need regardless of economic status, religion, age, gender etc.. Physiotherapists and mechanics give freely of their time to assess, modify and fit the wheelchair to the specific needs of the individual.
This May, a container of wheelchairs is arriving in Bangalore. These wheelchairs and mobility aids are required by the disabled poor in and around Bangalore and ProVision already have a waiting list of clients who are in desperate need of these mobility aids. Rs60,000 is needed to pay for the receipt, transportation in Bangalore, refurbishment by the prison volunteers, and final distribution. Maybe Rs2000 per wheelchair – about US$40 to transform someone’s life.
If you are not free to play cricket on 23rd May, I hope that we can ask you for a sponsorship donation towards our target and forward to a friend who may be interested in joining and/or supporting?
